Make sure you read The magician's nephew, the first in the series, and then the world-famous classic The lion, the witch and the wardrobe. If you like these, you can read all seven.

McKINLEY, Robin.  The Hero and the Crown

PIERCE, Tamora.  Circle of Magic (series)
In mythical lands surrounding the Pebbled Sea, four young people come from varying backgrounds, each orphaned or unwanted, rankling against the restrictions that class and culture impose. PRATCHETT, Terry. The Colour of Magic (Discworld series)
A blend of surreal fantasy, magic and humour, this series follows the adventures of witches and wizards, heroes and barbarians, who all live on a huge disc, supported by four large elephants standing on the shell of Great A'Tuin, a turtle of unimaginable size, the whole contraption hurtling through space. Rincewind, a failed wizard, is commissioned to act as a guide for a tourist named Twoflower from the other side of the Disc, and the adventures begin.

PULLMAN, Philip.The Golden Compass (Book 1 in the Dark Materials Trilogy)
Accompanied by her daemon, Lyra Belacqua sets out to prevent her best friend and other kidnapped children from becoming the subject of gruesome experiments in the far North.

SHAN, Darren. Cirque du Freak (series)
